"The first album was us focusing on trying to record songs that we'd composed and written while performing live as a band," he reflects. "Whereas this record was entirely a studio album. We really sat down and wrote and recorded and focused on composing the tracks." Starting in autumn 2011, Gobbi, singer/lyricist Donnelly & Keir Long (piano / synths) devoted themselves to the album - for an entire year. The twin-track dynamism of their music - the pulse of electronica, the space of classical soundtrack work - is brilliantly realised in a pair of songs at the heart of the album, the spare, minimal 'S raphine' and 'All I Have', a glitchy, dancefloor-friendly epic that is earmarked as the album's second single - a perfect summer club tune. The juxtaposition of the two, nods Gobbi, was purposeful.

Planet Mu is a label that has always survived on its own very independent terms. For 20 years it's existed both on the fringes and in the centre of emerging electronic music, from IDM and breakcore to dubstep and grime and lately to footwork, which it took a chance on, opening it up to the world through the two Bangs & Works compilations. It also has a strong history of connecting the dots in between those genres by supporting idiosyncratic artists, from label stalwart Venetian Snares to Kuedo, Machinedrum, Boxcutter, Vex'd, Falty DL, Luke Vibert, Ital, Jlin and Mr. Mitch to name just a few.

SECOND TOUGHEST IN THE INFANTS (2015 REMASTER) (SUPER DELUXE EDITION)

Originally released in March 1996, Second Toughest In The Infants is Underworld’s masterpiece. Following 1994’s groundbreaking predecessor dubnobasswithmyheadman (the record that cemented the band’s reputation as one of the UK’s most important dance acts), Second Toughest… was the point they forged out alone, in turn creating some of the most forward thinking electronic music this country has ever produced.

2016 has been a stellar year for experimental hip hop luminary DJ Shadow, aka Josh Davis, with the release of his critically acclaimed studio album The Mountain Will Fall – his first release in five years – drawing praise from all corners, from the Guardian who called the record “impressive in its inventiveness” to MOJO who claimed “Shadow is back in the frame” and AV Club who hailed it as “DJ Shadow’s best work since his early-aughts heyday”.
